What do you want to learn?
Before comparing schools, write down who you want to coach and the skills you need to develop. You may be preparing to start an independent practice, adding coaching skills to your current role or continuing your professional development. Those goals can call for different courses.
Ask each provider how much of the course involves practising conversations, receiving feedback and reflecting on your own work. A detailed timetable and assessment description are more useful than a general promise that you will become an expert.
How do you check accreditation?
Search for the exact course and provider in an official directory. A logo on a provider’s website does not tell you which course, level or intake it covers.
ICF: use the Education Search Service to find coaching education and check the listing. ICF education accreditation and an individual coach credential are separate matters. Ask which credential pathway the course supports and what you would still need to complete.
NOBCO and EQA: consult the NOBCO directory of EQA-accredited programs. EQA concerns the training program. EIA certification concerns the individual practitioner. Joining an association is not the same as completing either process.
Seven questions to compare coaching programs
Who is the course for? Check entry requirements, assumed experience and the types of clients or settings used in practice.
What language will you use? Confirm the language of teaching, practice groups, feedback and assessment. This matters especially when you intend to coach in English in the Netherlands.
How will you practise? Ask how many observed sessions, feedback rounds and practice assignments are included, and who gives the feedback.
How will your learning be assessed? Request the assessment criteria, the form of the final assessment and any resit conditions.
What is the full time commitment? Include teaching days, preparation, practice, travel and assessments in your calendar.
What is the total cost? Check tuition, materials, assessment, resits and any separately charged mentoring or credential application. Ask whether tax is included where applicable.
What happens after graduation? Ask what qualification you receive, what it demonstrates and which further steps are required for your intended professional credential.
How do you choose between two suitable programs?
Make a shortlist and attend an information session for each course. Ask both providers the same questions and request written answers. Speak with a recent participant about practice and feedback, while remembering that one person’s experience does not establish the quality of the whole program.
Then compare the fit with your actual week. A course that requires practice clients, travel and extensive preparation needs more room in your agenda than the classroom dates alone suggest. Leave time to apply what you learn and discuss difficult sessions.

Does finishing an accredited course automatically certify me as a coach?
Do not assume so. Course completion and an individual credential have different requirements. Check the current requirements with the credentialing organization and ask the provider which parts its course covers.

There is no single recommendation in this guide. It provides a way to compare programs against your goals. Verify the specific course, practice opportunities, assessment and commitments before enrolling.
Should I arrange a practice room while studying?
